I have wanted to study Mandarin for some time and have tried on a couple of occasions to teach myself, with limited success. However since starting lessons with Kent I have improved at a faster rate than I had imagined possible.

The lessons are fun, instructive and well structured to allow gradual continued progress. Kent is a very clear teacher with a caring attitude to his students, his enthusiasm and encouragement have been invaluable and his sense of humour is ever present. Kent has also been flexible about fitting lessons into our busy work schedules.

The textbook is simple to follow and each lesson builds at a level that stretches you but not to a point of being overwhelming. Kent's tailor made supplementary lessons expand on ideas in the textbook as well as giving strong exercises to aid revision and instruction has been individualized to meet our specific needs. The lessons teach you in a natural way, without concentrating heavily on grammar. I would highly recommend Kent as a Mandarin teacher.

Kent has been trying to force words that all sound the same into my brain for five months now, and if I was even mildly gifted I’m sure I’d be leaving Hongkongers who speak Putonghua awestruck on a regular basis. That I have lasted this long – and I’ve dropped out of many a language course – is testament to Kent’s ability to make lessons enjoyable and make me feel as though I’m making progress even when I’m not.
