How I teach

From my years of experience teaching Chinese as a second language, I know a lessonˇ¦s simplicity, human interest and humour are the keys to a fast and enjoyable learning process.

I concentrate on the Chinese used in daily activities, learning the language step by step in contexts relevant to student's interests. Within a few weeks students have learnt how to communicate simply but effectively with Chinese people in everyday situations, fuelling their enthusiasm for further progress.

Also, I believe thereˇ¦s more to learning Mandarin than the nuts and bolts of the language. Itˇ¦s a process that involves exploring the culture and traditions of China - and a process of sharing cultures between tutor and student.

Private or Group classes

Private classes

I provide one-on-one tutoring during the day or evening, including weekends and public holidays, at studentsˇ¦ homes or offices.

Group classes

I also provide group classes for two to five students. Iˇ¦d be happy to discuss a group of, say, six or seven, but my experience with groups is that the learning rate suffers if groups grow much bigger than five.
